S. A. Cosby delivers another gripping thriller with Blacktop Wasteland, pairing a high-stakes heist story with a sharp look at race, poverty, and the struggle for stability. Beauregard “Bug” Montage is a devoted husband and mechanic trying to leave his past as the East Coast’s best getaway driver behind, but when financial pressures mount, he’s pulled back into crime. Cosby makes even flawed, law-breaking characters deeply likable, and Bug’s choices feel both tense and painfully human.
What sets this thriller apart is its depth. Cosby tackles rascism and income inequality without ever sounding preachy. The prose is layered, giving the book a literary edge while still delivering plenty of adrenaline for the thrill seekers. I will read anything this man writes. Huge FAN!
