See If You Won this Week's Giveaway & Find Out Where Perry Landed in 1984. Hint: It Might Involve a Plank!
In the Aura Cove Temporal Traveler series, you never know where Perry, the snarky African grey parrot, will pop up next. This exclusive excerpt from Never Alone (book three in the series) delivers a moment that’s sure to tickle your funny bone.
Peregrine
I came to with the distinct feeling that someone had used my head as a cannonball. The world swam into focus in disorienting glimmers—first mind-numbing color, then punishing sound, then the alarming realization that I was swaying.
Not the gentle sway of a perch, mind you. This was the nauseating roll of being suspended. From an upside-down vantage point, I found myself dangling from what appeared to be a ship’s mast, secured by one leg with a length of surprisingly comfortable velvet rope.
“What in the blazing bird seed?” I muttered, flapping my wings and twisting to right myself.
Below me, a raucous chaos was underway. Hundreds of humans swarmed across what should have been a normal street but had transformed into a maritime fever dream. Men with eye patches and peg legs. Women in corsets that forced their pillowy breasts out into the humid air with children in tow, wielding plastic swords with the enthusiasm of tiny psychopaths. All of them united by one bizarre aesthetic. They were pirates.
Still in a daze, I wondered if I’d traveled back into the 1800s. It took me several long moments to re-acclimate. I scanned the horizon for clues, and relief flooded in when I realized they weren’t real pirates, filthy and scurvy-riddled. No, these were suburban accountants and soccer moms playing weekend buccaneers.
“The parrot’s alive!” a gravelly voice shouted from below.
I twisted my feathered head to locate its source, finding a weathered man with a permanent squint and a leg that ended not in a foot, but in a wooden peg that looked suspiciously authentic. Unlike the polished, costume-shop pegs surrounding him, this one was worn, with divots and scratches that spoke of years of actual use.
I was roosted on a rather elaborate float constructed on a flatbed truck. The “ship” had been crafted from plywood and foam, painted to resemble weathered wood. Paper mâché cannons lined the sides, and a skull and crossbones flag fluttered in the breeze overhead.
“Release me at once,” I declared with as much dignity as I could muster. “I am Peregrine, an avian specimen of exceptional intelligence, not a common house pet that must be restrained.”

Help Bring the Next Aura Cove Series to Audio
Pre-orders for the Aura Cove Temporal Traveler audiobooks are now open!
I’ve signed a contract with CJ Locks, the same incredibly talented narrator who brought the Midlife in Aura Cove series to life. After hearing the result, I knew this next series deserved the same top-notch performance.
Recording begins this summer, and the first book, Nevermore, is expected to be delivered by August 1st (or earlier!) as soon as production is complete.
If you’re excited to hear Neve’s adventures come to life, I’d be so grateful for your support. Your pre-order helps make this possible.
Chapters 1-3 of Never Enough are now live in The Book Club!
A paid subscription to the book club directly supports my work and helps me remain independent from Amazon and other major retailers.
Never Enough is the FINAL book in the Aura Cove Temporal Traveler series and book club members will get to read it as I write it, comment, and become part of the process.
Book Club Members will also receive a special shout-out and thank you in the acknowledgements of Never Enough for being part of my creative process. If you’re a member, make sure to respond to the email I sent with your information to be included!
The Finale is Coming Together!
This newsletter is a bit shorter than usual because I’m hard at work meeting my next deadline for Never Enough, the final installment in the Aura Cove Temporal Traveler series. The plot is thickening, and so many possibilities are running roughshod through my brain that I’m juggling twists, turns, and scientific research nonstop. I want to deliver a truly satisfying conclusion for my readers, and getting it just right is consuming all my creative energy at the moment, in the best possible way. Order yours in your favorite format and escape into a magical world where the bad guys get what they deserve.
